The autumn of our 45th year in business was very dramatic due to the global financial crisis, the scope of which has never before been witnessed in our lifetime. Nevertheless, we had a record turnover of 1.354 billion Swedish kronor, an increase of approx. 9 % on last year. The final result was 42,8 million Swedish kronor, a drop of approx. 39 % compared to last year. The operating result for the year has been reduced with higher depreciation of intangible fixed assets. Before the depreciation, the result is up by approx. 40 %, compared to last year. We are extremely pleased with these increases, particularly as the financial crisis has created a very unstable market and economic climate.
Ever since 1984, when Pulsen AB was floated on the Stockholm OTC stock exchange, Pulsen has operated as a public company, even if we formally left the OTC index in 1992. We have an external board of directors, which places focus on the operation, and we have committed employees at all levels, who carry out their work with great deal of competence and commitment. Our corporate values, which are reflected in our operation and by our employees are Confidence, Peak competence, Commitment and Innovation.
Pulsen AB takes on the central role in the group. It is consequently in the three legs of the operation that business is carried out. Pulsen Data AB targets the entire IT market, where we are able to offer complete turn-key management of operational systems, operation and cloud services, integration and security as well as products and services. PEDAB Group AB distributes products and software to the Nordic market. Pulsen Fastighets AB is responsible for our real estate and also runs its sister operation, Pulsen Förvaltning.
Pulsen Data AB is the parent company for a number of different business areas with the following focus areas.
Operational systems
Pulsen is leading supplier in the Nordic countries of business systems for consumer-based catalogue and in-store shopping, as well as book club systems, with efficient logistical solutions and commodity flows. This autumn we also launched Pulsen combine, a leading IT tool for supporting Sweden´s social services, commissioned by the municipalities of Nacka, Täby and Upplands Väsby. Of 20 or so optional municipalities, so far four municipalities have signed up for Pulsen combine. The Magna Cura care system is also part of our operation, with an approximate 15 % coverage of the municipal market.
Integration and security
Pulsen is the market leader within the municipal sector with regard to solutions of packaged services within system integration and security. In addition, we also have standard work stations and portal solutions. Pulsen aims to be a strategic partner for its clients, who are mainly municipal council offices, county council offices and large companies. We are intensifying our work to create products that simplify the implementation of system integration and security products for large commercial companies.
Products and services
Pulsen´s aim is to streamline and secure existing and new IT environments. We are responsible for all of Pulsen´s product sales, from mainframes to small work stations. Our job for major contract clients is to supply ordered products to various workplaces. Service sales supplement the product deliveries. The Solution unit markets packaged services specialised for IBM Power i (IBM AS/400).
Operation and cloud services
Pulsen ensures that the client´s operation works round the clock, 365 days a year and is Europe´s leading operator with regard to IBM VM/VSE/Linux platforms. On this platform, we are responsible for the handling of large volumes for our business system and outsourcing clients. Pulsen also runs a number of server platforms in a secure and modern computer hotel. Pulsen Service Desk is also part of this unit, and they handle the support and administrative services. The aim is for this unit to be the entry point for all user support.
PEDAB Group AB is the parent company for a number of subsidiaries within the distribution operation. A project has begun in the Nordic countries with offices in Helsinki, Copenhagen and Oslo. The vision is to become the first choice, based on well-established expertise and innovative power with regard to services, products and service. PEDAB is the leading distributor of products from IBM and Lenovo in Sweden. PEDAB Finance broadens and complements the business base. Its own board with external members also contributes to the independence.
Pulsen Fastighets AB has premises in Borås, Gothenburg and Solna, and a conference and restaurant operation in Borås. Pulsen Fastighet aims to design creative environments for our clients, suppliers and employees in the locations where the majority of our activities are based. Closely connected with Pulsen Fastighet is our Pulsen Förvaltning operation, which has invested capital in the Priveq Investments risk capital company´s II and III funds, the Valedo I fund and Jade Invest. This year´s results have been marginally affected by the investments made. We are pleased that a lot of organisations, companies and private individuals have visited our sources of inspiration, Pulsen Konferens and Restaurang Astern in Borås. They offer a range of different experiences, whether it is learning new things or enjoying a gourmet dinner.
